Women's Swimming Places Third at Patriot Invitational, Men Sixth

FAIRFAX, VA (Nov. 19) - George Washington sophomores Ruth Dubyel (West Point, NY/James I. O'Neill) and Kristen Fagley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Westminster Academy) each won an event and placed second in another to lead the women's swimming team to a third place finish at the Patriot Invitational in Fairfax, VA. The men's team placed sixth in the seven team event.

Dubyel captured the 200-yd backstroke with a time of 2:07.41 and placed second in the 100-yd butterfly with a time of :58.24. Dubyel also finished third in the 200-yd butterfly with a time of 2:08.60. Fagley remained undefeated in the 500-yd freestyle this season by posting a 5:03.70, her fastest time of the season. Fagley also finished second in the 200-yd freestyle with a time of 1:55.72. Freshman Kirsten Rasmuson (San Diego, CA/Mt. Carmel) continued her impressive rookie campaign by finishing second in the 100-yd breaststroke with a time of 1:05.60. Dubyel and Rasmuson each have GW's top times in four events.

On the men's side, junior David Dillehay (Gallatin, TN/Gallatin) placed second in the 500-yd freestyle with a time of 4:37.02. Dillehay's time was the second fastest in the Patriot Invitational's history, but North Carolina Wilmington's Warren Lockie narrowly defeated Dillehay by finishing in 4:36.83 for the meet record. Sophomores Ryan White (Silver Spring, MD/John F. Kennedy H.S.) and freshman Bryan Ferretti (Newtown, PA/Council Rock) also had second place finishes. White finished second in the 200-yd freestyle with a time of 1:42.83, while Ferretti placed second in the 400-yd individual medley with a time of 4:09.20. Sophomore Andrew De Sorbo (Salisbury, NC/Salisbury) had a pair of third place finishes. De Sorbo placed third in both the 200-yd individual medley with a time of 1:56.32 and the 400-yd individual medley with a time of 4:09.34.

The Colonials return to the pool on Saturday, December 1, as they compete against Old Dominion University at Smith Center. Diving begins at 11:00 a.m. and the swimming competition begins at 1:00 p.m.
