Swimming's Maggie Moss Does It Again Breaking Her Own GW 200 Backstroke Record

FAIRFAX, VA -- GW Swimmer Maggie Moss set another GW record on the third and final day of the George Mason Invitational when she eclipsed her own record in the 200-yd backstroke by more than a second. The Colonials women finished the three-day invitational in fifth place with 355.5 points while the men stayed in seventh with 254 points.

The Colonials top performer again Sunday was Maggie Moss who broke her own GW record for the second straight day. On Sunday the sophomore finished the 200-yd backstroke in 2:02.35 eclipsing her old mark by more than a second. This time is tied for the 34th fastest recorded in the US this season. Moss also swam the leadoff leg of the 400-yd freestyle relay in an impressive time of 52.95 for the fastest 100-yd freestyle time of her career. This time was only .39 off of the GW record and nearly in the Top 100 fastest times in the Nation this season.

Kirsten Rasmuson finished sixth in the 200-yd backstroke with a time of 2:25.39, swimming 10 one hundredths of slower than her time of 2:25.29 in the preliminary round. Rob Stuart finished fourth in the three-meter dive with a score of 421.90.

Two Colonials won consolation races. Ruth Dubyel won her consolation heat of the 200-yd butterfly while Mark Adam won his consolation heat of the 200-yd breaststroke.

The Duke men's and women's swimming and diving teams both clinched the Patriot Invitational title at the Aquatic & Fitness Center on the campus of George Mason University Sunday with scores of 827 and 956, respectively. Host-school Mason finished second on the women's side with 728 points and third on the men's side (605).

The Colonials while conclude the 2003 portion of their season with a home meet against Old Dominion on Saturday, December 6.
