Washington, DC - Colonials standout freshman Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) set a new George Washington record with her first place finish in the 200-yd backstroke at Old Dominion University on Saturday December 7. Moss finished the race in 2:04.79 which eclipsed the previous record set last season by Kristen Fagley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Westminster). Her first place finish was more than seven seconds faster than any of the five others who competed on Saturday. Moss also swam the third leg on the women's 400-yd medley relay team who won with a time of 4:01.09. Moss has quickly made her mark at GW and was named Atlantic 10 Co-Rookie of the Week for her performance in the first week of the season.
The Colonial women beat Drexel 154-90 while just losing to Old Dominion 117-114. On the men's side, the team was beaten by Drexel 149-90 and Old Dominion 137-93. Another top performer for the women's team was Ruth Dubyel (West Point, NY/ James I. O'Neill). Dubyel won two individual events and won a third as a member of a relay team. Dubyel won the 50-yd freestyle with a time of 0:25.76. She also won the 200-yd butterfly with a time of 2:08.91 which was the best time posted in the event by a GW swimmer this season. Dubyel swam the first leg of the women's 400-yd medley relay which won in a time of 4:01.09. Freshman Christina Boland (Purcelville, VA/Loudon Valley) was also a member of that relay team and won the 100-yd freestyle in 0:54.30.
The men's team was led by Bryan Ferretti (Newtown, PA/Council Rock) who won two individual events and was the member of a winning relay team. Ferretti won the 1,000-yd freestyle in a time of 9:56.94. He also won the 500-yd freestyle in a time of 4:48.75. Ferretti swam the final leg on the men's 400-yd freestyle relay team who finished third with a time of 3:19.84. The top rookie performer for the Colonials was Mark Adam (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) who won an individual event. Adam won the 200-yd breastroke in a time of 2:10.80. He placed fourth in the 200-yd freestyle with a time of 1:50.48. He also placed sixth in the 200-yd individual medley 2:04.68.
