Mens and Womens Swimming Fall to Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, MD (January 18, 2001) - The George Washington men's and women's swimming teams fell to the Maryland Terrapins, 171-68, and 181-60, respectively, on Wednesday, January 17, 2001 at the University of Maryland.

On the men's side, senior Alvaro Fortuny (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Colegio Interamericano) continued to dominate the 100-y breaststroke winning his heat easily with a time of :57.19. Senior Jeremy Hoders (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) won both the 1 meter diving and 3 meter diving with scores of 271.95 and 263.10.

Senior Lynne McCormick (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) won the 1 meter diving event. McCormick won the event with a score of 233.24 and finished third in the 3 meter event with a score of 213.00.

Both the men's and women's teams will return to action on Saturday, January 20 at 1:00 p.m. as they travel to the University of Maryland Baltimore County to compete against UMBC and Massachusetts.
