Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Defeated by Dukes

WASHINGTON, DC (January 29, 2001) - The George Washington men's and women's swimming teams fell to the James Madison University Dukes, 120-95 and 152.5-94.5, respectively, on Sunday, January 28 in Harrisonburg, VA.

Among the bright spots for the men's team, sophomore David Dillehay (Gallatin, TN/Gallatin) completed his solid weekend by winning the 1000-yd freestyle (9:48.26). He also finished second in the 500-yd freestyle (4:47.40). Dillehay won four events in the meets against James Madison and George Mason. Freshman Ryan White (Silver Spring, MD/John F. Kennedy H.S.) won two individual events for the second straight meet, the 200-yd freestyle (1:42.63) and the 500-yd freestyle (4:44.08). Seniors Wes Teter (Farmer's Branch, TX/RL Turner) and Alvaro Fortuny (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Colegio Interamericano) also won individual events. Teter won the 100-yd freestyle (:46.81) and Fortuny won the 200-yd breaststroke (2:05.59).

Freshman Kristen Fagley (Ft. Lauderdale, FL/Westminster Academy) won two events to help lead the women's team. Fagley won the 200-yd freestyle (1:56.07) and the 500-yd freestyle (5:07.57). Divers Lynne McCormick (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) and Kelly Danylyshyn-Adams (La Jolla, CA/La Jolla) combined to sweep the diving events. McCormick won the one meter event with a score of 238.20 and Danylyshyn-Adams won the three meter event with a score of 252.975.

The women's team returns to action on Wednesday, January 31 against Richmond at Smith Center. The men's team is off until February 15 when they travel to Buffalo to compete in the Atlantic 10 Championships.
