WASHINGTON, DC (Jan. 29) - George Washington sophomore swimmer Ruth Dubyel (West Point, NY/James I. O'Neill H.S.) has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Co-Performer of the Week, the Conference office announced. It is the first Atlantic 10 honor for Dubyel this season.
On Saturday, January 26 against George Mason and St. Bonaventure in Fairfax, VA, Dubyel managed to swim her fastest in two individual events and help her relay team also achieve their best time this season. She captured first in the 100-yd backstroke, a close race where her time of 1:00.42 not only edged out the second place finisher by 0:00.05 seconds, but also is now her season best in that event. She went on the place second in the 100-yd butterfly with another new season top time of :58.15. Finally, Dubyel's 200-yd freestyle relay team sped by competition to achieve victory with their season best time of 1:40.54.
Dubyel and her female Colonial teammates return to the pool on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at the University of Richmond. This will be Dubyel's chance to go up against Elizabeth Cook of Richmond with whom Dubyel shares Atlantic 10 Co-Performer of the Week honors.
