WASHINGTON, DC (Feb. 5) - George Washington sophomore swimmer Ruth Dubyel (West Point, NY/James I. O'Neill H.S.) has been named the Atlantic 10 Women's Co-Performer of the Week for swimming and diving, the Conference office announced. This is Dubyel's second consecutive Atlantic 10 honor and one she shares with Massachusetts diver Kate Allery.
Dubyel won two events on Wednesday, January 30 at GW's meet against Richmond in Richmond, VA. She captured first in both the 100-yd backstroke and 100-yd butterfly with her new season best times that also place her as the second-fastest in the Atlantic 10 in both events. After posting new season top times in both only on Saturday, January 26 against George Mason and St. Bonaventure in Fairfax, VA, Dubyel managed to swim even faster on Wednesday. She placed first in the 100-yd backstroke with a time of :59.62 and also in the 100-yd butterfly in :57.61. Her 200-yd medley relay team also achieved a new GW season best when they finished second in 1:50.22. Dubyel holds GW's top times in four events, the 100 and 200-yd backstroke and the 100 and 200-yd butterfly.
Dubyel and her Colonial teammates will return to the pool on Tuesday, Feb. 19 in Buffalo, NY at the Verizon Atlantic 10 Championships.
