GW Names Olympian Katura Horton-Perinchief Head Diving Coach

Sept. 9, 2005

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University swimming and diving program has hired former Olympian and Colonial Katura Horton-Perinchief as its diving coach, head coach Dan Rhinehart announced.

Horton-Perinchief came to GW as a student-athlete prior to the 2004-05 academic year as a transfer graduate student from the University of Texas.

Competing for GW last season, she earned First Team All-Atlantic 10 honors in two events along with being named A-10 Academic All-Conference.

Horton-Perinchief set school records in the one-meter and three-meter events and was subsequently named the 2005 Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Diver. She qualified and competed at Nationals, becoming only the second-ever GW diver to do so.

While at Texas, Horton-Perinchief earned All-Big 12 honors and represented her native Bermuda at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.

Horton-Perinchief relocated from Bermuda to Toronto, Canada as a child and was a diver on the Canadian Junior Team from ages 13 to 18.

Horton-Perinchief is pursuing a master's degree at GW in public health.
