PHILADELPHIA, PA - The George Washington University men's and women's swimming and diving teams faced host La Salle University and James Madison University Saturday afternoon in a dual meet at Kirk Pool.
The men went 1-for-2 in the meet, edging La Salle 57-56 and losing to JMU 57-54.
The women were defeated by both of their opponents, falling to La Salle 59-54 and to JMU 65.50-47.50.
Senior Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) and freshman David Zenk (St. Louis, MO/St. Louis Country Day School) led the women's and men's teams by each placing first in two events.
Moss won the 200-yard individual medley (2:11.28) and 200-yard backstroke (2:06.14) while Zenk also took the 200-yard individual medley (1:55.63) and 200-yard backstroke (1:52.89).
Freshmen Laura Myers (Cedarburg, WI/Divine Savior Holy Angels) and Ariana Berdini (Woodstock, GA/Etowah) also recorded first place finishes for the women. Myers won the 50-yard freestyle (25.57 seconds) and Berdinia took the 200-yard breaststroke (2:28.48).
In the 100-yard freestyle, Myers notched a second place finish with a time of 55.48 seconds.
Finishing second behind Berdinia in the 200-yard breaststroke was freshman Lauren Fuchs (E. Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) with a time of 2:30.90.
In the men's 100-yard freestyle, junior Jeffrey Cohn (New Orleans, LA/Isadore Newman) placed first with a time of 48.37 seconds.

In the diving portion of the meet, sophomore John Osterholt (Hollywood, FL/Charminade Madonna) finished second in the one-meter and three-meter events to reigning Atlantic 10 Diver of the Year Karo Isajan from La Salle.
Osterholt scored 220.45 points in the one-meter and 229.50 in the three-meter.
GW also earned a first place finish in a relay event as the men took the 400-yard freestyle in 3:11.27.
GW's next meet is a two-day competition with American University and Catholic University beginning Friday evening.
Catholic will host the Friday night portion of the meet with American hosting Saturday afternoon. GW will host the diving events which will just included the Colonials and American.
