Men's And Women's Swimming Fall To Virginia Tech

WASHINGTON, DC (November 4, 2000) -- The George Washington men's and women's swimming teams fell to the Virginia Tech Hokies, 153-87, and 149-91, respectively, on Saturday at Smith Center.

On the men's side, freshman Ryan White (Silver Spring, MD/John F. Kennedy H.S.) won two individual events, the 200-y free and the 100-y free. Senior Alvaro Fortuny (Guatemala City, Guatemala/Colegio Interamericano) continued to dominate the 100-y breaststroke winning his heat easily with a time of :57.42. Senior Jeremy Hoders (Deerfield, IL/Deerfield) won both the 1 meter diving and 3 meter diving with scores of 228.075 and 302.850.

Junior Nell Friar (Oak Ridge, TN/Oak Ridge H.S.)won the 100-y breaststroke to highlight the women's action. Divers Lynne McCormick (Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington) and Kelly Danylyshyn-Adams (La Jolla, CA/La Jolla) each won a diving event. McCormick won the 1 meter diving with a score of 218.925 and Danylyshyn-Adams won the 3 meter diving with a score of 242.775.

The men's team returns to action on Wednesday, November 8 against Navy at 5:00 p.m. at Smith Center. Both the men and women will take on La Salle on Saturday, November 11 at 11:00 a.m. at Smith Center.
