Moss Named A-10 Women's Swimming Co-Rookie of the Week

Nov. 21, 2002

WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington women's swimming freshman Maggie Moss (Indianapolis, IN/North Central) received Co-Rookie of the Week honors, the Atlantic 10 has announced. Moss has emerged as one of the Colonials' top swimmers this year making a strong transition to collegiate swimming.

Moss set a pool record at the James Madison University on Oct. 25 in the Colonials' first dual meet of the season. She swam the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58:57. In the Colonials' 139-88 win over La Salle on Nov. 11, Moss recorded first-place finishes in the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.26) and in the 200-yard backstroke (2:05.80).

Moss came to George Washington in large part after seeing her cousin Meghan Mitchell (George Washington '95) compete for the Colonials in swimming. Mitchell had set the James Madison University pool record in the 500 freestyle in 1995. So it was only fitting that Moss would join her cousin on the record board as well as at her alma mater.

"When we arrived at James Madison, I saw Meghan's name on the scoreboard for pool records," said Colonials coach Dan Rhinehart. "I told Maggie 'we've got to get your name up there with your cousin by the end of this meet." Moss responded and won the 100-yard backstroke in impressive fashion.
