Men's Water Polo Opens Season with Victory

The Colonials started 2017 on Saturday with a win over Navy.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Behind six goals from Andras Levai in his collegiate debut, George Washington men's water polo dropped Navy, 15-11, in its season opener on Saturday morning at Lejeune Hall.

The 18th-ranked Colonials (1-0) took the lead for good in a tight game at the Navy Open on a score by Levai with 5 minutes, 5 seconds left in the third quarter and pulled away from Navy (0-1) in the final period. The freshman from Hungary led the offense down the stretch, posting three goals in the third quarter and two in the fourth.

Sophomore Andrew Mavis added five goals for GW. Atakan Destici, Duke Becker, Pierce Deamer and Jordan Blosser also scored in the victory.

GW closes play at the Navy Open on Sunday, facing Washington & Jefferson at 1:30 p.m. and Salem International at 3:30 p.m.
