Men's Water Polo Caps Perfect Opening Weekend
Colonials beat Washington & Jefferson and Salem International
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - George Washington men's water polo completed a perfect opening weekend at the Navy Open, knocking off Washington & Jefferson and Salem International on Sunday afternoon at Lejeune Hall.
The 18th-ranked Colonials beat Washington & Jefferson, 19-3, in the opener, led by four goals from Jordan Blosser. The sophomore notched seven goals in a 21-8 victory over Salem International to cap the event.
GW 19, Washington & Jefferson 3: GW scored seven of the first eight goals and rolled past the Presidents. Blosser led the way offensively, but nine different Colonials found the net in the victory. Jack Kerwin and Kerim Sismanoglu scored three times apiece.
Freshman Vaios Vlahotasios made the most of his first career start with eight saves.
GW 21, Salem International 8: GW busted open a tight one with five unanswered goals in the second quarter and cruised to another victory.
Blosser had never scored more than once in a game entering the day, but he continued a breakout start with seven goals. Sismanoglu, Kerwin, Andras Levai, Pierce Deamer and Atakan Destici also recorded multiple goals in the best offensive effort of the opening weekend.
Junior Austin Pyrch set a career high with 15 saves to anchor another strong defensive performance.
WEEKEND SPOTLIGHT: Blosser finished his freshman season with 10 total goals. He eclipsed that total on opening weekend with a combined 12 goals in three victories. He also made an impact defensively, highlighted by three field blocks in the win over Washington & Jefferson.

UP NEXT: GW heads to New Jersey next weekend for four games at the Princeton Invitational. The Colonials start against fourth-ranked UCLA on Friday at 2:30 p.m. They also face Iona, No. 10 Harvard and No. 15 Brown at the event.
