Sept. 17, 2008

ANNAPOLIS, MD - The George Washington men's water polo team led 4-3 after the first quarter, but couldn't maintain its lead in an 18-8 CWPA Southern Division loss at 13th-ranked Navy Wednesday evening.

GW (4-5, 0-1 CWPA Southern Division) enjoyed a one-goal cushion after the first eight minutes of action, but Navy (6-4, 2-0) scored seven of the games' next eight goals to take a 10-5 lead in the third quarter. The Mids closed out the game with a 7-2 run in the fourth quarter to saddle the Colonials with the loss.

Senior David Zenk, juniors Nick Archambault and Marshall Freedman, and freshman Cray Rogers each scored two goals for GW. Freshman goalkeeper Alex Sotolongo totaled six saves.

GW heads to Cambridge, MA, and Harvard University for the two-day ECAC Championship beginning Saturday. The second-seeded Colonials face seventh-seeded Iona in Saturday's opener at Noon. GW then faces either third-seeded Harvard or seventh-seeded No. 20 Johns Hopkins in Saturday's late game, with a Sunday game to be determined.
