Men's Water Polo Drops Johns Hopkins
Colonials grab MAWPC road victory
BALTIMORE - Andrew Mavis recorded five goals to lead George Washington men’s water polo past Johns Hopkins, 20-10, on Friday night at Newton White Aquatic Center. Nine different Colonials scored in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference road victory.
GW (8-6, 2-2 MAWPC) took the lead in the opening minute and pulled away quickly by scoring six of the first seven goals. After Johns Hopkins (8-5, 0-3) edged within 9-5 late in the second quarter, the Colonials scored the final goal of the half and the first two after the break to seize back momentum.
Andras Levai continued his strong freshman campaign with four goals and Atakan Destici added two goals, five assists and five steals. Kerim Sismanoglu, Pierce Deamer and Jordan Blosser also notched two goals apiece.
In net, GW’s Vaios Vlahotasios set a career high with 15 saves and also added two assists and a steal.
UP NEXT: GW wraps up the weekend Saturday at home against Wagner. It’s a 2 p.m. start at Charles E. Smith Center Pool.
