Men's Water Polo Falls at Bucknell
Colonials come up short at MAWPC leader
LEWISBURG, Pa. - George Washington men’s water polo fell to Bucknell, 11-9, on Saturday at Kinney Natatorium.
The Colonials led at halftime and entered the fourth quarter tied but came up short in the Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference showdown.
Pierce Deamer’s first goal put GW (9-7, 3-3 MAWPC) up 7-5 with two seconds remaining in the first half. His second tied it at 9 with 23 seconds left in the third quarter.
The Colonials didn’t score in the final quarter, though. Bucknell (10-6, 6-0) got the go-ahead goal early in the period from Marko Djordjevic and an insurance tally from Rade Joksimovic with 1:13 left to provide the difference in a rematch of last season’s conference championship.
Vaios Vlahotasios made seven saves in net for the Colonials.
UP NEXT: GW will spend next weekend in Massachusetts. The Colonials start with MIT on Thursday before three days at the Harvard Invitational. They’ll be tested with matchups against No. 11 Princeton, No. 13 St. Francis Brooklyn, No. 14 Harvard and No. 15 Brown.
