Oct. 8, 2007

STOCKTON, CA - The George Washington men's water polo team easily handled Fresno Pacific, 16-6, in its second game of the University of the Pacific Invitational on Saturday, but dropped its other contests against nationally ranked Pacific and Cal Baptist at the event.

Sophomores Rick Rogers and Nick Archambault both netted hat tricks for the Colonials in their victory over the Sunbirds. GW (7-9) pushed out to an 8-2 lead by halftime and coasted to the win.

GW opened the Invitational with a 15-14 overtime loss against 19th-ranked California Baptist Saturday. Senior John Jennings, red-shirt junior Nick Eddy and junior David Zenk each scored three goals to lead the attack, followed by two goals apiece from junior Gustavo Canto and sophomore Rick Rogers.

In Saturday's finale, GW surrendered nine goals in the second quarter of an 18-11 loss against 15th-ranked Pacific. That loss dropped the Colonials to 6-8 in their last 14 games, with all eight losses coming against nationally ranked opponents. Zenk, Jennings and Canto led the team with two goals apiece against the Tigers.

GW hosts nationally ranked Navy in its first home game of the season Wednesday at 8:00 pm.
