Deamer Tallies Five Goals Against Southern Division Rival
Oct. 10, 2015
LEWISBURG, Pa. -- The George Washington men's water polo team dropped a 17-10 decision to No. 13 Bucknell on Saturday afternoon in CWPA Southern Division action at the Bison's Kinney Natatorium.
Sophomore Pierce Deamer matched his career high with five goals and six ejections drawn and added one assist. Sophomore Duke Becker tallied four points on two goals and two assists to go with three steals. Freshman goalkeeper Matt Taylor recorded 13 saves in the cage.
GW took a 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter and was ahead, 6-5, at halftime after Becker scored with two seconds remaining to break a 5-5 tie.
The teams traded the first two goals of the third frame, as GW held a 7-6 advantage 39 seconds into the period, but Bucknell rattled off six of the next seven goals to take a 12-8 lead it would not relinquish. Deamer scored two of the first three goals of the fourth quarter to make it 13-10, but the Bison netted four unanswered to end the game and take the 17-10 win.
The Colonials return to action on Friday, Oct. 16, when they visit Southern Division rival Johns Hopkins at 7 p.m.
