Men's Water Polo Stopped by No. 15 Brown

Atakan Destici posted four goals and three assists against Brown.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - George Washington men’s water polo battled No. 15 Brown to the final whistle on Friday evening, falling, 12-11, to open the Harvard Invitational at Blodgett Pool.

GW trailed 8-4 at halftime and 12-8 with 2:20 left but stormed back to challenge Brown. Atakan Destici scored the game’s final three goals in quick succession, pulling the Colonials within one with 43 seconds left. They followed with a defensive stop but couldn’t convert on a chance to tie in the final seconds.

Destici finished with four goals and three assists to pace GW (10-8). Andrew Mavis also scored four times against Brown (10-7), while Andras Levai added three goals, an assist and two steals.

UP NEXT: GW’s weekend schedule doesn’t get any easier. The Colonials are set to face No. 11 Princeton and No. 12 St. Francis Brooklyn on Saturday before finishing up against No. 14 Harvard on Sunday morning.
