No. 14 GW Men’s Water Polo Falls to No. 9 UC Davis
Colonials finish West Coast swing on Monday vs. No. 20 Santa Clara
SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- The No. 14 GW men’s water polo team closed play in the Rodeo Classic on Sunday afternoon with a 23-4 loss to ninth-ranked UC Davis.
The Colonials, playing their fourth game in four days, fell to 10-8 on the season with the loss while the Aggies improved to 18-4. Sophomore Zach Slaughter led GW with a pair of goals while junior Pierce Deamer and freshman Atakan Destici had one apiece.
UC Davis was led by Cory Laidig and Ido Goldschmidt with four goals each. The Aggies took control early with a six-goal first quarter while preventing GW from getting on the scoreboard, before Destici accounted for the Colonials’ lone first half goal with 3:33 left in the second quarter.
Slaughter tallied both of his goals in the fourth quarter but UC Davis, which won for the 11th time in its last 12 games, kept the pressure on with five goals in the third and six more in the fourth.
GW will close its West Coast trip on Monday when it faces its third ranked opponent in four days in No. 20 Santa Clara.
