PRINCETON, NJ - The seventh-seeded George Washington men's water polo team built an 11-0 lead through three quarters to rout 10th-seed Salem International in the opening game of the CWPA Southern Division Championship in Princeton, NJ, Friday evening.
GW (8-19) moves on to face second-seeded No. 16 Princeton Saturday morning at 10:15 am. The winner will face #3 Bucknell or #6 Gannon at 4:30 pm, while the loser will battle #8 Washington & Jefferson or #9 Penn State Behrend at 3:15 pm.
The Colonials torched the Fighting Tigers for six goals in the first quarter and led by nine at the half.
Redshirt senior Nick Eddy and sophomores Nick Yeager and Brett Gall had two goals apiece for GW, followed by one goal each from senior Bill Richardson, junior John-Claude Wright, sophomore Peter Thomas and freshmen Jonathan Rebstock and Dan Alessandri. Rookie goalkeepers Alex Sotolongo and Craig Merlin split time in goal, making three saves apiece.
