CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The George Washington men's water polo team fell to No. 15 Bucknell, 17-4, on Friday in the first round of the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Championship at MIT's Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center/Alumni Pool.
The 10th-seeded Colonials (7-21) were led by sophomore All-Southern Division First Team selection Pierce Deamer's two goals, while seventh-seeded Bucknell (15-11) was paced by Marko Djordjevic's game-high five scores.
The Bison got off to a quick start, posting a 3-0 run to begin the game, but the Colonials closed the period with scores by sophomore Noah McKinnie Braun and Deamer to put GW within one to end the first quarter.
Bucknell came out strong in the second stanza, posting five unanswered goals to increase its lead to 8-2 at the half.
The Bison controlled the second half of the game, tallying nine goals, while sophomore Duke Becker broke through on a power play in the third quarter, and Deamer tallied his second goal of the game in the fourth period to put the final score at 17-4.
The Colonials will continue their tournament play on Saturday, as GW takes on 11th-seeded Washington & Jefferson at 12:40 p.m.
