ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Junior Bogdan Petkovic scored a career-high six goals and the George Washington men's water polo team had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds but ultimately fell to 18th-ranked Harvard, 14-13, to finish in eighth place at the CWPA Championship on Sunday afternoon at Navy's Lejeune Hall.

Trailing by a game-high five goals, 13-8, with 6:27 remaining, GW (13-15) made a furious rally with five of the final six goals of the game. Freshman Pierce Deamer ignited a three-goal spurt at the 5:13 mark, and freshman Quentin Montgomery followed with a power play goal a minute later. Deamer then pulled the Colonials within two with 3:41 to play before Harvard scored for the final time on its next possession.

Petkovic again made it a two-goal game with a man-up marker at the 2:58 mark, then pulled GW within one with 45 seconds left. The Colonials had a chance to tie it in the final seconds, but Petkovic's backhand shot sailed over the crossbar and the Crimson held on for the 14-13 win.

Harvard jumped out to a 5-2 lead after the first quarter, and the teams traded goals throughout the second and third quarters. The Colonials outscored the Crimson, 4-3, in the second to make it 8-6 at halftime, and Harvard held an 11-8 advantage after three.

Petkovic finished with a game-high six goals and added an assist, three steals and three field blocks. Deamer scored twice and recorded three ejections drawn, and junior goalkeeper Connor Dillon made six saves.
