GW's Bogdan Petkovic Tabbed Honorable Mention All-American
Rookie is Second-Ever Colonial to Earn All-America Honors
Jan. 29, 2013
WASHINGTON - George Washington men's water polo freshman Bogdan Petkovic was selected as an Honorable Mention All-American by Division I head coaches across the nation, the Association of College Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced on Tuesday.
Petkovic is just the second Colonial ever to earn All-America recognition, joining David Zenk, who also garnered honorable mention accolades in 2007.
Petkovic was named the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Rookie of the Year in November, and he was also tabbed to the All-South First Team. A native of Belgrade, Serbia, he concluded his impressive inaugural campaign with a single-season program record 96 steals while ranking third on the team with 45 goals, 24 assists and 69 points. In addition, the central defender posted a team-high 18 field blocks on the year, the third-highest single-season total in school history.
"It's a pretty amazing accomplishment for Bogdan to be honored for his hard work and steady play at a position that doesn't create a lot of game highlights," said head coach Scott Reed.
Petkovic was twice named Southern Division Rookie of the Week in 2012, garnering the first and last accolades of the season.
