THREEPEAT: GW's Bogdan Petkovic Earns Third Straight All-America Honorable Mention
Junior is First Colonial Ever to Garner Three All-America Accolades
Feb. 4, 2015
WASHINGTON - George Washington men's water polo junior Bogdan Petkovic was selected as an Honorable Mention All-American by Division I head coaches across the nation for the third year in a row the Association of College Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced on Tuesday.
Petkovic is the first Colonial ever to earn All-America recognition three times after also garnering honorable mention as a freshman and sophomore. David Zenk is the only other Colonial to earn All-America accolades, as he was also named honorable mention in 2007.
Petkovic was named to the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) All-Southern Division First Team for the third consecutive season this fall, the first Colonial ever to earn three first-team honors from the CWPA, and he was also tabbed to the CWPA Championship All-Tournament Second Team in November.
The 2012 CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Year, Petkovic led the Colonials with 63 goals, 106 points, 83 steals and 24 field blocks this season. Already GW's all-time leader in field blocks (72), the center defender now has 254 steals in his career, second-most in program history. In addition, his 83 steals this past season are the fifth-highest single-season total ever by a Colonial and his 24 field blocks rank second only to his own program mark of 30, which he set in 2013.
A native of Belgrade, Serbia, Petkovic was named Southern Division Defensive Player of the Week twice this season and is the first player in CWPA history to earn Player, Defensive Player and Rookie of the Week in his career.
