GW Beats Villanova, Salem and Bucknell, Falls to Princeton at CWPA Meet

WASHINGTON, DC (March 7, 2001) - Freshman Mia Fabian led the Colonials' charge with 16 goals in four games as GW went 3-1 at the Collegiate Water Polo Association weekend meet.

On Saturday, March 3, the Colonials topped Bucknell for the second time in three meetings this season. GW lost to the Bison in their season home opener, 8-7. However, the Colonials would best Bucknell in this match, 12-10. Fabian scored three goals to lead GW.

The Colonials would not fare as well against Princeton, falling 12-5 to the tough Tiger squad. Trailing 9-2 after three periods, GW made a valiant effort in the fourth period, scoring three late goals, but were unable to pull any closer to Princeton.

On Sunday, March 4, the Colonials swept Salem International and Villanova, dominating play in both matches. Fabian scored 12 of her 16 goals on the weekend in the two matches, setting a GW single-game record with eight against Villanova. The Colonials never trailed in either match, as they beat Salem 13-4 and Villanova 17-8.
