Men's Water Polo Signs Alex Sotolongo to Letter of Intent
Nationally Ranked Colonials Ink Goalkeeper for 2008
April 2, 2008
WASHINGTON, DC - George Washington men's water polo head coach Scott Reed has announced that Alex Sotolongo (Coral Gables, FL/Ransom Everglades) has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the nationally ranked Colonials beginning in 2008.
Sotolongo, a goalkeeper, became the career leader in blocks at Ransom Everglades School earlier this season and also set school records for single-season blocks (216) and blocks in a game (16) this winter.
Sotolongo was named County MVP and All-SouthEast in 2008 after earning All-County and All-SouthEast honors in 2006. He is a member of the Florida Coast Water Polo Club team, which posted a Top 15 finish in 2006, and earned MVP honors at the Commerce U-20 International Tournament this year.
GW finished the 2007 season ranked No. 17 in the CWPA National Top 20 after placing third at the Eastern Championships in November, the program's best finish at the event. The Colonials finished the 2007 season 12-18 overall, with three victories against Top 20 foes and 11 losses by two goals or less to Top 20 teams.
