BRIDGEPORT, PA - Eight George Washington men's water polo players were named to the 2006 Collegiate Water Polo Association All-Academic Team, as announced by the league office on April 19.
Sophomores David Zenk and Connor Lynagh and freshman John-Claude Wright earned superior status on the list for posting GPAs between 3.41 and 3.7. Senior John Hornberger, junior Justin Licht and sophomores Sergei Shev, Brendan Boerbaitz and Andrew Sweeney were placed in the excellent category with GPAs between 3.2 and 3.4.
Zenk, Wright, Hornberger and Shev previously were named to the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-American Academic Team on Feb. 16.
To be eligible for the honor, student-athletes must possess a 3.2 cumulative grade-point-average or higher. In total, 203 student-athletes from all national varsity and club programs were recognized by the CWPA.
GW, led by eighth-year head coach Scott Reed, won 14 games in 2006, the most since 1998, including victories against nationally-ranked programs Santa Clara (13-11) and Bucknell (7-6).
