Four League Home Games Highlight Fall Slate
WASHINGTON -- The George Washington men's water polo team will host four matches against CWPA Southern Division rivals and compete in three in-season tournaments as part of its 2015 schedule, first-year head coach Adam Foley announced on Thursday.
The Colonials will begin their 2015 campaign on Sept. 5-6 at Brown's Bruno Classic, where they will face a pair of opponents from the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Northern Division which finished last season ranked in the national top 20 -- No. 16 St. Francis Brooklyn and No. 8 Brown -- as well as two teams from the West Coast in Occidental and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps. The following weekend, GW will head to the Bison Invitational hosted by Bucknell (Sept. 12-13) to take on Washington & Jefferson, Mercyhurst, Johns Hopkins and Fordham.
GW hosts Southern Division rivals Johns Hopkins, Bucknell and Princeton during Alumni Weekend at the Charles E. Smith Center Pool. The Colonials will open their home slate against the Blue Jays on Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m. before facing off with the Bison, who were ranked 17th in last season's final poll, on Sept. 26 at 11 a.m. GW concludes its weekend against the reigning Southern Division champion Tigers, who finished 2014 ranked 11th in the nation, on Sept. 27 at 12 p.m.
The Colonials open the month of October with their annual trip to California for a match at University of Redlands on Oct. 1 and the Gary Troyer Tournament, Oct. 2-3 (opponents to be announced at a later date), before returning home to host Southern Division rival Navy for Senior Night on Oct. 7. The Midshipmen were ranked 14th in the final national poll of 2014.
GW hits the road for the final six games of the regular season, paying return visits to Southern Division rivals Bucknell (Oct. 10), Johns Hopkins (Oct. 16) and Navy (Oct. 18). The Colonials conclude the regular-season at Fordham (Oct. 23), Iona (Oct. 24) and Princeton (Oct. 25).
The 2015 CWPA Southern Division Championship is slated for Nov. 6-8 in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, at Bucknell's Kinney Natatorium while the CWPA Championship will take place from Nov. 20-22 at MIT.
