Chad Arnold Joins GW Water Polo Staff as Assistant Coach
Former UMass Standout has Final Four Experience
Aug. 6, 2012
WASHINGTON - Former University of Massachusetts standout Chad Arnold has been named assistant coach of the George Washington men's and women's water polo teams, head coach Scott Reed has announced.
Arnold was a member of the 1999 and 2001 UMass teams that won the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Eastern Championship and advanced to the NCAA Final Four. During his three-year career with the Minutemen, Arnold recorded 64 goals and 44 assists.
"Chad has played for one of the best programs in CWPA history, won multiple Eastern titles and been at NCAA's," said Coach Reed, who is also a UMass alumnus. "With all that experience, he knows what it takes to be a winning program."
Following his graduation in 2003, Arnold spent nine seasons as an assistant boys' and girls' water polo coach at his high school alma mater, Governor Mifflin, in Shillington, Pa. In addition, he served as an assistant coach for the boys' 2009 and 2010 Junior Olympic 16U team of Kingfish Water Polo, placing 15th in the nation in 2009.
Since 2009, Arnold has also been the head coach of the USA Water Polo Northeast Zone Ninth Grade Boys' Team, which is part of USA Water Polo's larger Olympic Development Program. He was named the East-West Regional Championship Top Coach in 2010 and 2012, and he also received the USA Water Polo Ted Newland Distinguished Men's Coaching Award in 2010.
"I'm excited to work on the college level, especially with the resources the university is putting into the athletic department," Coach Arnold said. "I'm just ready to get started."
Also a member of three straight Atlantic 10 champion swim teams at UMass, Arnold earned his bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from Massachusetts in 2003 and his master's degree in sport management from Millersville University in 2011.
