Week 1 Varsity Top 20

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - Following a successful weekend that included a win over then-No. 12 St. Francis, the George Washington men's water polo team climbed into the Varsity Top 20 national rankings at No. 20 on Wednesday.

The Colonials were ranked for two weeks last season, peaking at No. 17 on Oct. 2.

GW is one of five CWPA programs ranked in the current Top 20, along with No. 11 Princeton, No. 14 Brown and Navy (tied) and No. 18 Harvard. Fellow CWPA rivals St. Francis and Bucknell are also receiving votes.

GW went 2-1 at the season-opening Princeton Invitational last weekend, including a 19-18 overtime victory over then-No. 12 St. Francis, the highest-ranked opponent the Colonials have ever defeated. Senior Brian Mojica (14 goals, 6 assists) was named CWPA Southern Division Player of the Week on Wednesday for his efforts.

The Colonials head to the Bison Invitational hosted by Bucknell this weekend, where they will take on Fordham, Salem International, Penn State-Behrend and Mercyhurst.
