GW Opens Home Schedule Against No. 11 Navy on Wednesday

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington men's water polo squad (1-4, 0-1 CWPA) hosts conference rival Navy in its home-opener on Wednesday, September 15 at 8:00 p.m. at the Smith Center Pool. The Naval Academy is ranked 11th in the nation and second in the CWPA Top 10 poll. The Colonials are No. 6 in the CWPA Top 10 rankings.

GW is coming off an 8-4 loss at the hands of No. 13 Princeton on Sunday, September 12. Four different Colonials scored in the contest, including senior captain Nick Koenemann, who leads the team with 10 goals, and freshman Nick Eddy, who ranks second on the squad with nine tallies. Freshman Chris Whittam made a career-high 11 saves against the Tigers and leads the Colonials with 32 saves on the season.

Navy (2-4) split two matches in Colorado Springs, CO this past weekend. The Midshipmen lost, 10-4, against UCLA on Friday, September 10, but rebounded to defeat rival Air Force, 14-7, on Sunday, September 12. Navy is scheduled to square off against Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD, on Wednesday afternoon before making the trip to the Smith Center for the match against GW.

Jordan Gentry and Alex Ratcliffe paced the Midshipmen with 10 points each through its first four matches of 2004.

The Colonials were 0-3 versus Navy last season, including a, 14-7, loss to the Midshipmen in the CWPA Southern Championship.
