Illes Collects Second CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week Award
Rookie Goalkeeper Matched School Record With 19 Saves Against MIT
Sept. 21, 2009
BRIDGEPORT, PA - George Washington freshman goalkeeper Cameron Illes earned his second CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week award Monday following a school-record tying performance at the ECAC Championship in Princeton, NJ, last weekend.
Illes, who was also tabbed the league's Rookie of the Week on Sept. 7, matched the single-game school record for saves with 19 in GW's 6-5 loss to MIT in the seventh-place game of the ECAC Championship Sunday. He is the first Colonial to earn multiple Rookie of the Week honors since the inception of the award last season.
In five games at the event, Illes averaged 10.2 saves with a .593 save percentage, while dishing out three assists and posting a pair of steals.
Illes opened the tournament with 14 saves as the Colonials avenged an earlier loss to Harvard with a 12-5 opening-round victory. He added eight saves and two assists in two quarters of action in Saturday's 17-7 win over Connecticut College.
GW (4-10) begins CWPA Southern Division action with a pair of league road contests this weekend. The Colonials visit Bucknell Saturday at 1:30 pm, then return to Princeton Sunday to face the Tigers at 10:45 am and Iona at 3:00 pm.
