Alex Sotolongo Named CWPA Southern Division Rookie of the Week
Freshman Goalkeeper Made 10 Saves in League Win Over Bucknell
Sept. 30, 2008
BRIDGEPORT, PA - George Washington freshman goalkeeper Alex Sotolongo was named Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Rookie of the Week, the league announced Monday. Sotolongo's 10 saves helped GW defeat Bucknell, 11-9, on Sept. 27.
Sotolongo added an assist and steal along with his 10 saves to help the Colonials snap a 10-game conference losing skid with Saturday's victory over the Bison. Sotolongo posted six saves and three steals in a narrow 11-9 loss to league-leader No. 19 Princeton on Sunday.
Sotolongo, who ranked ninth in the nation in total saves last week, has 92 saves in 13 games and ranks second on the team with 21 steals.
GW (6-8, 1-2 CWPA Southern Division) begins its annual trip to the West Coast Thursday at No. 17 California Baptist. The Colonials then play four games in two days at the Claremont Convergence, including a Friday meeting with No. 20 Air Force.
