Taylor Named Mid-Atlantic Player of the Week
Sophomore goalkeeper earns Player, Defensive Player of the Week Honors
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Sophomore goalkeeper Matt Taylor of the GW men's water polo team has been named Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA).
Taylor helped the Colonials to a 2-1 record on the road over the weekend that included wins over No. 9 Bucknell and La Salle, with the loss coming at No. 13 Princeton.
A native of Auckland, New Zealand, Taylor was at his best in the 10-9 win over the ninth-ranked Bison, recording 15 saves and a career-high tying five steals to help GW record its second victory over a ranked opponent this season. The victory snapped a nine-game winning streak for Bucknell and avenged a Colonials loss at home two weeks prior.
For the weekend, Taylor contributed 21 total saves and on the season has 109 against 98 goals allowed for a .527 save percentage.
The 16th-ranked Colonials, who own a 9-5 record including 5-1 in Mid-Atlantic Conference play, return to action on Oct. 20 when they start a five-game West Coast road trip at Pacific.
