Mavis Named MAWPC Co-Player of the Week
GW sophomore sparked two home wins last weekend
BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - George Washington's Andrew Mavis has been named Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference Co-Player of the Week.
Mavis was recognized by the conference Wednesday after totaling 11 goals on 17 attempts with nine ejections drawn and five steals in two GW wins at Charles E. Smith Center Pool last weekend. The sophomore from New Jersey shared the honor with Gannon's Zarko Sadikovic.
On Friday, Mavis scored a career-high seven goals and added an assist and four steals to help the Colonials beat Johns Hopkins, 19-13. He sparked the offense again Saturday by scoring four goals and drawing five ejections in a 16-14 win over Navy.
It's the first MAWPC weekly honor for Mavis, who leads GW with 62 goals this season. The last Colonial to win the award was Bogdan Petkovic on Nov. 3, 2016.
In addition, senior Duke Becker earned a spot on the Defensive Player of the Week Honor Roll after piling up a team-high seven steals in the final homestand of his GW career. Freshman Andras Levai made the Rookie of the Week Honor Roll in recognition of his seven total goals against Johns Hopkins and Navy.
The Colonials are off this weekend before wrapping up the regular season Nov. 4 with MAWPC road games at Fordham and Wagner.
