GW Men's Water Polo Returns to MAWPC Play This Weekend

WASHINGTON -- After a five-game road trip to California, the 17th-ranked GW men's water polo team turns its attention back to Mid-Atlantic Water Polo Conference play this weekend as it hosts Johns Hopkins (Friday, 7 p.m.) and Navy (Saturday, 3 p.m.)

The Colonials are set to honor seniors Dennis Gut, Bogdan Petkovic, Sander Profaci and Alex Swart in a Senior Night ceremony prior to Friday's game.

GW comes into the weekend with a 5-1 record in league play, sitting just one-half game behind Bucknell (6-1) in the standings. Johns Hopkins is 3-3 in division play while Navy is 1-6.

Freshman Atakan Destici has led the Colonials offensively this season, racking up 90 points on 64 goals and 26 assists. Petkovic has 59 points on 32 goals and a team-high 27 assists, and junior Pierce Deamer has 34 goals and 14 assists. In goal, sophomore Matt Taylor owns a .528 save percentage.

Like GW, Johns Hopkins (3-14) played in the Rodeo Invitational last weekend where it went 0-4. Giorgio Cico leads the Blue Jays with 58 points on 40 goals and 18 assists. In goal, keeper John Wilson has a .456 save percentage.

Navy (6-14) is also coming off a trip to the West Coast where it dropped all four of its games. David Huber leads the Midshipmen with 45 goals and 11 assists, while Ronan Williams has a .458 save percentage in the net.
