Nov. 3, 2016

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. -- Redshirt senior Bogdan Petkovic of the GW men’s water polo team has been named Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Mid-Atlantic Player of the Week, the league announced Thursday.

Petkovic led the Colonials to a pair of divisional home wins over Johns Hopkins (12-11) and Navy (15-7) over the weekend, pacing the team with nine goals and seven assists. Petkovic, a native of Belgrade, Serbia who is the school’s all-time steals leader while ranking fifth in goals scored, helped the team snap a four-game losing streak to the Blue Jays, adding three steals, two ejections drawn and a field block to go along with his four goals and four assists.

The central defender added another five goals as GW led throughout in the win over Navy, to improve to 7-1 in league play this season and moving the Colonials atop the MAWPC standings. Petkovic has accounted for 41 goals, 34 assists, and 40 steals this season.

Petkovic was named CWPA Mid-Atlantic Player of the Week earlier this season after leading the Colonials to victories over Fordham (15-5) and Wagner (17-10) with nine goals and six assists.

The 18th-ranked Colonials are back in action this weekend with conference tilts at Johns Hopkins on Friday and at Navy on Saturday.
