BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - The George Washington men's water polo team is seeded fifth for this weekend's Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Southern Division Championship, the league announced on Monday. The Colonials will face No. 4 Johns Hopkins on Friday at 4:50 p.m. and No. 9 Salem International at 8:50 p.m. in pool play at Princeton's DeNunzio Pool.

Seeding was based on a vote of the division's 11 head coaches.

Princeton, which won the Southern Division-East Region regular-season title and is ranked ninth in the nation, claimed the top seed in the three-day tournament. Defending Southern Division champion Navy is seeded second, followed by the remaining East Region programs in Bucknell (3rd), Johns Hopkins (4th) and GW (5th).

Southern Division-West Region regular-season champion Washington and Jefferson earned the sixth seed, while Mercyhurst (7th), Gannon (8th), Salem International (9th), Monmouth College (10th) and Penn State Behrend (11th) round out the field.

GW (9-11, 1-7 Southern) split a pair of games with Johns Hopkins last month, with each team winning on the road. The Colonials also defeated Salem International, 20-5, on Sept. 13 at the Bison Invitational.

The Southern Division Championship, which takes place from Nov. 7-9, will determine the five Southern Division teams which will earn automatic bids to the CWPA Championship, Nov. 21-23 at Navy. The top five teams from the Southern Division Championship will compete against the top three teams from the Northern Division Championship, along with four at-large selections, for the league title and an automatic berth in the NCAA Championship.
