Men's Water Polo Ranked No. 18 in CWPA National Top 20
Colonials Climb to No. 3 in CWPA Top 10
Nov. 21, 2007
BRIDGEPORT, PA - The George Washington men's water polo team is ranked No. 18 in this week's Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) National Top 20 poll, the first ranking for the program since 1998.
No. 18 GW also moved to third in the CWPA Top 10 following its third-place finish at the Eastern Championships Nov. 18, the program's highest finish at the event. The Colonials finished the 2007 season 12-18 overall, with three victories against Top 20 foes and 11 losses by two goals or less to Top 20 teams.
The national ranking is the first under nine-year head coach Scott Reed, who was named CWPA Southern Division Coach of the Year on Nov. 16. GW was ranked in the Top 20 every year from 1994 to 1998, peaking at No. 14 in 1996.
Senior Chris Whittam and junior David Zenk were both named to the Eastern Championships All-Tournament team. Zenk was the lone Colonials player recognized on the All-South First Team after leading the team with 94 points, 43 assists, 89 steals and 100 swim-offs won. Whittam, who ranks second all-time at GW in saves (807), goals against average (8.88) and save percentage (.510), earned All-South Second Team honors for the second straight season. Redshirt junior Nick Eddy joined Whittam on the All-South Second Team.
