GW's Petkovic Earns CWPA All-Tournament Second-Team Honors
Junior Scored 13 Goals in Four Games at CWPA Championship
Nov. 23, 2014
ANNAPOLIS, Md. - George Washington men's water polo junior Bogdan Petkovic was selected to the CWPA Championship All-Tournament Second Team, the Collegiate Water Polo Association announced at the conclusion of the three-day event.
Petkovic led GW to eighth place at the tournament with 13 goals, three assists, 10 steals, six blocks and four ejections drawn.
He opened the weekend with six points on five goals and an assist in an 11-8 win over Fordham, then recorded three steals, two field blocks and two ejections drawn while scoring once against eventual league champion and 11th-ranked Brown.
After tallying two points and three steals against No. 13 Bucknell on Saturday, the native of Belgrade, Serbia, finished the season strong with a career-high six goals to go with three steals and three field blocks in the finale against 18th-ranked Harvard on Sunday.
Named to the CWPA All-Southern Division First Team for the third time in his career on Friday, Petkovic finishes the season with team highs of 63 goals, 106 points, 83 steals and 24 field blocks.
Already GW's all-time leader in field blocks (72), he now has 254 steals in his career, second-most in program history and just 15 behind record-holder David Zenk ('09). In addition, his 83 steals this season are the fifth-highest single season total ever by a Colonial and his 24 field blocks rank second only to his own program mark of 30, which he set last year.
Petkovic is the first Colonial to earn All-Tournament accolades at the CWPA Championship since Zenk and Chris Whittam in 2007, when GW placed third, its highest finish in program history.
