EMMITSBURG, MD - Freshmen Zach Borenstein and Jessica Stern led the men's and women's cross country teams, respectively, in a pair of 3rd place team finishes at the Mount St. Marys 5K Duals on Friday afternoon. Borenstein, a High School All-American, finished the 3.2 mile race in 11th out of 57 runners, clocking in 16:39.52. Stern finished in 19:59.89, good for 5th out of 50 runners.

The men tied for third out of six teams in the season opener, falling to Maryland and American, while tying UMBC, and defeating the host Mountaineers, and Loyola. Sophomore Stephen Rutgers had a solid afternoon, taking second on the men's squad in 16:45.24. Rutgers improved on his time from last years Invitational by over 40 seconds. Juniors Collin Stevenson and Chris Pisano followed for the Colonials in times of 16:52.50 and 17:07.67, respectively. Rounding out the scorers for the men's team was sophomore Andrew Coleman in 17:12.91.

Since there was a tie with UMBC, the sixth and seventh place runners for both men's teams were counted in the final score. Senior Mark Drath took sixth for the Colonials in 17:24.61, up 31 seconds from his time in the 2005 season. Junior Keith Moody followed up, covering the course in 17:42.93.

The women finished third out of six teams as well, falling to American and Maryland, while emerging victorious over Loyola, UMBC, and Mount St. Mary's. Two women placed in the top ten in their respective race as Stern took fifth and junior Audrey Noonan took ninth. Noonan finished in 20:29.88 in her first race at Mount St. mary's despite an injury. Sophomore Meaghan Smith took third for the Colonials in 20:52.29, good for 13th place overall.
