Veteran Runners Lead Colonials at Towson Invitational

WASHINGTON, DC - The George Washington University men's and women's cross country teams, who opened their season at Mount St. Mary's last weekend, traveled to the Towson Invitational in Hunt Valley, MD on Saturday morning. In her first race for the Colonials since transferring from the University of Southern California, graduate student Kate Neeper (Chaparral H.S./Parker, CO) led the women with a fourth place finish. Senior Daniel Morgan (Boyle County H.S./Danville, KY) and junior Joe Altenau (Fordham Prep/Eastchester, NY) paced the men with top ten finishes.

Neeper, a former All Pac-10 selection, finished fourth out of 105 runners in a time of 18:57.65. Junior Mae Polhemus (Spanish River H.S./Boca Raton, FL) clocked in at 20:00.21 to finish 14th and senior Taylor Leavitt (Leavitt Area H.S./Turner/ME) came in just over a second later in 20:01.45, finishing 15th.

Morgan, the lone senior on the men's squad, used his previous knowledge of Oregon Ridge Park and finished in the top ten, in seventh place out of 91 runners, with a time of 27:46.70. Junior Joe Altenau, came in second for the Colonials notching his first career top ten performance with a 10th place finish, clocking in at 28:10.04. Junior Mark Drath (Brentwood H.S. / Los Angeles, CA) came in next for the Colonials in 29:17.30, a 23rd place finish. Sophomore Keith Moody (Spruce Creek H.S./Orange, FL) finished fourth for the Colonials in 29:34.00, finishing 27th.

 

 

Both the men's and women's squad did not start the necessary five runners to generate a team score.

The Colonials are back in action and should be back to full strength next Saturday when they travel to Annapolis, Md. to compete in the Navy Invitational.
