Blum, Morgan Pace Cross Country at Navy

ANNAPOLIS, MD - The George Washington men's and women's cross country teams returned to action Saturday morning at the men's 8K Navy Invitational and women's 6K Salty Sea Dog Invite at the United States Naval Academy Cross Country course in Annapolis. Sophomore Daniel Morgan (Danville, KY) helped lead the men's squad to a fifth place finish, while senior Lindsay Blum's (Holland, PA) 16th-place showing guided the women's team to a 3-3 record in its race, which featured a dual-scoring format.

In the women's Salty Sea Dog Invite, Blum finished with a mark of 24:59.15 to place 16th out of 73 runners to lead the way. Junior Taylor Leavitt (Turner, ME) and sophomore Mae Polhemus (Boca Raton, FL) were the Colonials' next best finishers at 26th and 27th, respectively, with times of 25:25.75 and 25:27.81. Senior Colleen McCauley (Havertown, PA) and freshman Freja Pelich (Concord, NH) rounded out the scoring for GW, finishing 36th (26:03.22) and 40th (26:21.13), respectively. Junior Meghan Hughes (Hurricane, WV) finished 63rd with a time of 28:06.12.

Morgan led the men's squad for the second straight week, as he crossed the finish line in 27:05.87 to place 22nd out of 59 runners. The Colonials' freshman contingent of Chris Pisano (Toms River, NJ), Collin Stevenson (Sumner, WA) and Keith Moody (Orange, FL) followed Morgan by finishing 24th, 30th and 39th, respectively. Pisano clocked 27:11.37, Stevenson 27:57.90 and Moody 28:48.24, while sophomore John Woodside (Edmond, OK) completed the scoring at 41st with a time of 28:54.53.

 

 

GW returns to action next weekend when it hosts the 9th annual GW Invitational set to begin at 10:00 a.m. at Bull Run Park in Centreville, VA.
