The George Washington University women's cross country team were led by its two most experienced runners, graduate student Kate Neeper (Chaparral H.S./Parker, CO) and senior Taylor Leavitt (Leavitt Area H.S./Turner, ME), en route to a sixth place finish at the Salty Seadog Invitational on a waterlogged, Saturday morning.
Neeper, the former USC Trojan, finished in the top ten for the second consecutive race, finishing eighth overall at the 6K course in 23:40.38. Leavitt followed in 39th place in 25:10.02. Three freshman rounded out the Colonial scoring five with freshman Meaghan Smith (Arlington H.S./Pleasant Valley, NY) leading the way with a 46th place finish, clocking in at 25:33.29. Cincinnati native, freshman Kelly Wills (Sycamore H.S./Cincinnati, OH), finished fourth for the Colonials in a time of 25:45.13, good for 50th overall. Freshman Caitlin Lowery (Oak Hall H.S./Gainesville, FL) rounded out the top five in 26:08.64, a 55th place finish.
On the men's side at the Navy Invitational, senior Daniel Morgan (Boyle County H.S/Danville, KY) led the way in 26:31.93, good for 26th place. Freshman Andrew Coleman (Cumberland H.S./Cumberland, RI) enjoyed a second place team finish, completing the 8K course in 27:13.13, a 38th place finish overall. Coming in 39th place, just after Coleman was sophomore Collin Stevenson (Sumner H.S./Sumner, WA) in 27:15.93. Sophomore Keith Moody (Spruce Creek H.S./Orange, FL) came in 60th overall in 28:46.95. Junior John Woodside (Edmond Memorial H.S./Edmond, OK) rounded out the Colonials top five in 29:19.64, 63rd place overall.
The Colonials will be off next weekend which should benefit the injury depleted team who have been without several top runners. GW will be back in action in two weeks on Saturday, September 30 at the William & Mary Colonial Inter-Regional in Williamsburg, VA at 10:00 am.
