Cross Country Takes Third at Monmouth Invitational

HOLMDEL PARK, NJ - The George Washington University men's cross country team took on one of the toughest courses the nation at Friday's Monmouth Invitational, and earned a third place finish out of six schools. The highly ranked Delaware Blue Hens finished first with 39 points, followed by the host Hawks, who edged the Colonials by one point with 44 points.
Junior Chris Pisano led a group of four Colonials who finished fourth, fifth, sixth, and eighth overall. The Toms River, NJ native paced GW, covering the eight-kilometer (5-mile) course in 27:33, just 24 seconds behind the leader. Freshman Zach Borenstein and sophomore Andrew Coleman followed closely, clocking in at 27:49 and 27:58, respectively. The Colonials also received a strong performance by junior Collin Stevenson who crossed the line in 28:11. Senior John Woodside rounded out the scorers for GW, taking 33rd overall in 30:32.
The top four Colonials ran neck and neck, running even with the top two harriers on both the Blue Hens and Hawks.
The Colonials will be in action next weekend, as GW will travel to Pittsburgh, PA, to compete in the Carnegie Mellon Invitational. The Colonials had strong performances at last year's invite, as the women's squad won the team crown behind then-sophomore Audrey Noonan's first place finish in a personal and school record time of 18:14.80. The men also ran well, finishing fourth in the 19-team field.
