Men's Cross Country Fifth, Women 10th at Atlantic 10 Championships

PHILADELPHIA, PA (Oct. 27) - Sophomore David Azari (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) finished 18th out of 105 runners in the men's race and freshman Mary Beth McCullough (Brentwood, TN/Father Ryan) finished 56th out of 108 runners in the women's race to lead George Washington to a fifth and 10th place overall finish at the 2001 Verizon Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday, Oct. 27, in Philadelphia, PA. Azari finished in 26:03.3 to highlight a strong effort by the men's team, which significantly improved upon their eighth place finish at last year's A-10 Championships. Fellow sophomore Darrell Andruski (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) finished 33rd with a time of 26:30.9, just ahead of junior David Talbird (Lookout Mountain, TN/McCallie School), who finished 34th with a time of 26:31.2. Freshman Tim Persico (Shavertown, PA/Scranton Prep) also ran well, finishing 40th with a time of 26:40.9 McCullough and fellow freshman Erin Patton (Saline, MI/Saline) were the top two finishers for the women's team. McCullough finished with a time of 20:06.4, while Patton finished 65th with a time of 20:22.2. Senior Jenee Peterson (Latham, NY/Shaker) finished 67th with a time of 20:23.6. Sophomore Emily Jadwin (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape) and freshman Mary Caterina Bolton (Avondale Estates, GA/The Lovett School) finished 76th and 81st, respectively. Jadwin finished with a time of 20:34.5, while Bolton finished in 20:48.1.
