Men's Cross Country Takes 10th, Women 11th at Atlantic 10 Championships

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Led by freshmen Chris Pisano (Toms River, NJ) on the men's side and Audrey Hawkins (Barrington, RI) on the women's, the George Washington University men's and women's cross country teams finished 10th and 11th, respectively, Saturday morning at the 2005 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships, hosted by La Salle at Belmont Plateau.

Pisano, who has now been GW's top finisher at its last four competitions, crossed the finish line on the 8K course in 26:33.6 to finish in 50th scoring position out of 131 runners. The Colonials next four runners were all within 15 spots of the finish line behind Pisano.

Freshman Keith Moody (Orange, FL) came in 56th at 26:45.9, while junior Daniel Morgan (Danville, KY) placed 59th with a time of 26:51.4. The Colonials' third freshman, Collin Stevenson (Sumner, WA), claimed 62nd with a mark of 26:57.8, and sophomore Joe Altenau (Eastchester, NY) rounded out the top five at 27:04.1 to place 65th.

Leading the way on the women's side for the third consecutive week was Hawkins, who finished 34th overall out of 125 runners on the 5K course with a time of 19:21.4. Sophomore Mae Polhemus (Boca Raton, FL) was next to cross the line at 19:59.4 to place 65th, while senior Lindsay Blum (Holland, PA) was just behind her with a mark of 20:04.5 to claim 68th.

Completing the top five scoring positions for the Colonials was junior Taylor Leavitt (Turner, ME), who finished 75th at 20:14.3, and senior Colleen McCauley (Havertown, PA), who took 95th with a time of 20:52.5.

 

 

GW returns to action when it travels to Charlottesville, VA, on Saturday, Nov. 5, for the Cavalier Open at 11:30 a.m.
