Women's Cross Country Finishes Eighth, Men 10th at Atlantic 10 Championships

PITTSBURGH, PA - Led by top 30 finishes from senior Trina Bolton (Avondale Estates, GA) and freshman Michelle Concannon (LaGrangeville, NY), the George Washington women's cross country team placed eighth with 186 points Saturday morning at the 2004 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships hosted by Duquesne at Schenley Park. The GW men finished 10th with 259 points, led by top 50 performances from sophomore Daniel Morgan (Danville, KY) and freshman Christian Woodside (Edmond, OK).

La Salle, who was ranked No. 1 in the A-10 by the coaches entering the meet, claimed its fourth consecutive championship on the men's side as the Explorers placed all seven of their runners in the top 10. Richmond's John Ciccarelli finished first overall individually covering the 8K course in 25:30.

On the women's side, La Salle made it a clean sweep for the Explorers finishing with 35 points to secure their third A-10 crown in the last four years. In addition, Rachel Papin of La Salle placed first overall with a mark of 17:48 on the women's 5K course.

Bolton finished 18th overall to lead the Colonial women for the third time in as many meets with a season-best mark of 18:50, while Concannon placed 29th in a season-best 19:12. Senior Emily Jadwin (Mt. Laurel, NJ) was GW's third-best finisher at 41st with a time of 19:37. Sophomore Taylor Leavitt (Turner, ME) (19:49) and freshman Erynne Jones (Upland, CA) (19:58) completed the scoring for the Colonials placing 48th and 57th, respectively.

Morgan was once again the pace setter for the GW men, finishing 44th overall in 27:47. Christian Woodside claimed 49th in 27:52, followed by freshmen Jeff Scranton (South Windsor, CT) in 68th (28:25) and Joe Altenau (Eastchester, NY) in 73rd with a season-best performance at 28:37. Rounding out the scoring was sophomore Phil Sherman (Greenwich, CT) at 76th in 28:45.

 

 

The GW cross country squads return to action when they travel to State College, PA, on Saturday, Nov. 13, for the 2004 NCAA Mid Atlantic Regionals at 11 a.m.
