Women's Cross Country Finishes 16th, Men 23rd at NCAA Mid Atlantic Regionals

STATE COLLEGE, PA - The George Washington University men's and women's cross country teams were back in action for the first time in two weeks Saturday morning at the 2004 NCAA Mid Atlantic Regionals hosted by Penn State and held at the University's Blue-White Golf Courses. The GW women placed 16th with 483 points, while the men finished 23rd with 649 points in both squads final event of the season. The GW women, who finished 19th at last year's regional, were led by freshman Michelle Concannon (LaGrangeville, NY), who finished 84th out of 171 runners with a time of 23:27 on the 6K course, while senior Emily Jadwin (Mt. Laurel, NJ) was GW's No. 2 finisher at 90th with a mark of 23:40. Senior Trina Bolton (Avondale Estates, GA) finished just two spots behind Jadwin in 92nd with a time of 23:44 and freshman Erynne Jones (Upland, CA) clocked 24:09 to place 112th. Junior Colleen McCauley (Havertown, PA) completed the scoring for the Colonials finishing 129th in 24:39. On the men's side, freshman Christian Woodside (Edmond, OK) was the pace setter for the Colonials as he finished 122nd in 34:10 on the men's 10K course. Sophomore Daniel Morgan (Danville, KY), who was GW's top finisher in its previous six meets, including the A-10 Championship, placed 127th in 34:31, while freshman Joe Altenau (Eastchester, NY) crossed the line in 35:00 to finish 137th. Sophomore Phil Sherman (Greenwich, CT) was the Colonials' No. 4 finisher at 145th in 35:16, followed by freshman Jeff Scranton (South Windsor, CT) in 149th with a time of 35:26.
Seventh-ranked Georgetown was the winner on the men's side as the Hoyas placed three in the top 10 to finish with 49 points, while No. 28 West Virginia was victorious on the women's side with three runners of its own placing in the top 10 as the Mountaineers (63) edged No. 14 Villanova (68).
